Choose the Right Testing Process
Instant Urine Screening
Instant screening is performed at the collection site and may provide a negative screening result during the same visit.
- Available in a variety of drug panels
- Useful when a rapid screening result is needed
- A non-negative screen is not a final confirmed positive
- Laboratory confirmation and MRO review may be required depending on the testing program
Laboratory Urine Testing
The specimen is sent to a certified laboratory when laboratory testing is required. Results take longer because the laboratory performs testing, confirmation when indicated and required quality-control procedures.
- Used for DOT and many employment testing programs
- Available for a variety of non-DOT testing needs
- Positive laboratory results may require Medical Review Officer review
- Timing varies when confirmation or donor contact is required
Understanding Screening and Confirmed Results
A screening result and a laboratory-confirmed result are not the same. Certain medications or other substances may affect an initial screen. When confirmation or MRO review is part of the testing program, the final result is released only after the required process is completed.
DOT and Non-DOT Urine Testing
DOT Testing
DOT urine drug testing follows federal procedures for regulated safety-sensitive employees. The process includes the required chain-of-custody documentation, laboratory testing and Medical Review Officer review.
Non-DOT Testing
Non-DOT testing can be tailored to an employer policy, school requirement, court or personal testing need. Options may include instant screening or laboratory testing in a variety of drug panels.
